The Bogala Graphite Mine in Bogala, Sri Lanka, has recently made history by opening an extraordinary underground restaurant. This remarkable dining establishment is situated an impressive 410 feet below ground, making it the first of its kind in the country.
The mine itself has a rich history, dating back to its establishment in 1865. Over the years, it has gained a stellar reputation for exporting high-quality graphite to countries such as Germany, Japan, India, and Pakistan. At present, the Bogala graphite mine reaches a depth of 476 meters (approximately 1585 feet). It is at a depth of 124 meters (410 feet) that visitors will encounter a remarkable sight – an underground restaurant known as Dona. This unique dining establishment has been ingeniously installed around 150 meters from the mine’s river.
